There are active discussions on multiple forums across the Internet centered around the question, "Can you make a million dollars from Google AdSense?" Apparently there are people who have become a millionaire entirely through the Google AdSense publisher program.
What is the Google AdSense Publisher Program?
From Google.com: Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your visitors are looking for on your site — or matched to the characteristics and interests of the visitors your content attracts — you’ll finally have a way to both monetize and enhance your content pages.
It’s also a way for website publishers to provide Google web and site search to their visitors, and to earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages.
But can you really make that much money being an Adsense publisher?
Well, if you own a popular website that gets millions of page views daily, then it is certainly more than feasible that you could become a member of the elite google adsense millionaires club; but the average website is lucky to receive a few hundred pageviews per day much less to receive millions. Google AdSense publishing millionaires aren’t usually people like you and me. Take Jason Calacanis for example. Calacanis is the co-founder of Weblogs Inc, a network of blogs that made its income through advertising programs like Google AdSense. Calacanis is an example often used to show that yes, it’s possible to make tons of money as a Google AdSense publisher. Calacanis has reportedly generated millions from displaying google ads on his weblogs. But what is not often discussed is Calacanis’s background and his connections and how these factor into his laudable achievements.
The reality for most people looking for ways to make money online is that they are not of Jason Calacanis’s caliber. That is to say, they weren’t active in New York’s Silicon Alley community during the dot-com boom. They’ve never been profiled in The New Yorker and Wired. They aren’t personally acquainted with venture capitalists and angel investors the likes of Mark Cuban. They simply do not have Calacanis’s expert knowledge.
So keep Jason Calacanis’s background and connections in mind when reading about the fortunes he amassed as a Google adsense publisher. He was not a clueless little guy who started a blog network and "somehow managed" to get rich. And unless you are in a position yourself to secure Mark Cuban as an angel investor, or get funding for your venture through some other source, you probably will not be able to take the Jason Calacanis route to Google AdSense millions. (Note:Weblogs, Inc., the blog network Calacanis co-founded was sold to AOL in October 2005 for an amount reported to be about $25 million.)
So how do people like you and me get rich publishing Google ads on our blogs and other websites? The answer might well be that we won’t get rich as AdSense publishers; but the key to having a chance of making money with Google AdSense is to have a website that gets a decent amount of traffic that turns into useful page views. Just because someone reaches your web site doesn’t mean anything. Someone can take one look at your site and exit immediately. So you need not only to be able to get traffic, but you need the traffic to be targeted. You need people coming to your site who are interested in whatever it is you’re talking about on your site. You need your content to be interesting enough that they will read it. You need them to spend a little time on your site browsing your content. And you need to place your ads strategically so that they work within your content as seamlessly as possible.
Many more people know what Google ads are nowadays than in the past; and a good number of your visitors are going to consciously avoid clicking on your ads because, well, they know you make money if they click and human nature being what it is, they are not going to want to contribute to helping you make money off of their click. If you think about it, you probably do the same thing when you are on other websites, especially if the site is a competitor’s. These are some of the reasons people do whatever they can to integrate the ads within their content by modifying the ad code so that text and link font colors match the rest of their site.
But even while taking these steps you should not expect more than a very small percentage of your page views to result in a clickthrough. Thus, the greater your traffic and the longer people spend on your site the better luck you will have with Google AdSense.
Google does forbid such things as offering incentives to people to get them to click on ads or posting text such as, "help us out by clicking on these ads", or "support our sponsors" and other text designed to get people to click. It might seem unfair to you as a publisher. After all, you should be able to do whatever it takes to help get people clicking on the ads you’re publishing; but think how unfair it will be to the advertiser to have to pay for the useless clicks. Advertisers pay in the hope of clicks turning into sales for them. If your site visitors click just to help you make a few pennies you’re essentially ripping off the advertiser.
Considering that the ads Google will show on your page will usually be related to your content, if people are interested in your content there’s every chance they will spot an ad that captures their interest as well. You shouldn’t need to do anything extra to force their attention to the ads. In fact, doing so can convey a message to your visitors that you’re only interested in using them to make money, and no one likes the feeling of being used.
AdSense provides an opportunity for you to provide additional resources to your website viewers. Do not give the impression that your site’s purpose is to profit from AdSense rather than to provide a useful service.
As far as answering the question of how to make millions from Google Adsense, well, think about it this way, let’s say an average click earns you .03 cents. Let’s also say that to finish the year with a million Adsense dollars you need to make roughly $100,000 per month (you’d finish with a little more than a million at the end of 12 months - not factoring in taxes etc.).
So you need to make about $100,000 per month. That’s about $4000 per day rounding up to the nearest thousand.
At a rate of .03 cents per click, you need about 135,000 clicks per day to accumulate $4000 per day. The exact amount you’d accumulate with 135,000 clicks at .03 cents per click would be $4050. (.03 is the estimated average amount Google pays per click. The actual amount you receive per click varies and is determined by a number of factors)
Let’s say that each of your 135,000 clicks comes from a unique visitor. (This is unlikely but let’s say it’s the case for argument) Let’s also allow for the likelihood that only about 1% of your visitors will click on your Google ads. How many visitors per day does that mean you need to have in order to get your 135,000 clicks per day? 13,500,000!
If you have what it takes to build a website that gets 13,500,000 visitors per day, more power to you. Get started! Obscene wealth awaits you. Google might even buy your site for 1.6 billion. You probably won’t be needing to become an Adsense publisher even….
If you are like the rest of us, struggling just to get a few thousand visitors per month, you might need to scratch Google Adsense off your list of realistic ways to become an Internet millionaire.
1000 clicks per day is huge for the average publisher. At .03 cents per click, 1000 clicks earns you $30 per day. If you’re targeting specific high-paying keywords, you might be able to get as much as $3.00 for some of your clicks, but what is the likelihood of making $3.00 or more per click for 1000 clicks every day for a year?
$1000 per month from Google AdSense is far more feasible than $100,000; and even $1000 per month from Google AdSense isn’t that easy to achieve. So before you start getting excited about possibly becoming a Google AdSense millionaire, you might want to keep in mind that the majority of Google AdSense million dollar publishers aren’t laymen like you and me. Yes, there are a few regular Joes and Janes who are managing to make some decent money; but the average ad sense publisher is lucky to accumulate $100 per month.

From time to time I get frustrated. I wake up in the morning hopeful that something which will result in major profit for my business, happened while I was sleeping. Since I’d worked hard the day before as on every other day, it wasn’t like I was arbitrarily getting up out of bed hoping for miracles. Rather, I was waking up hoping to see the fruits of my labor. On most mornings I am able to keep things in perspective; but some mornings I become very disillusioned.
Nobody likes to struggle. And when you are struggling every day and can’t see any concrete evidence that you’re winning your battles, you’re bound to start thinking at some point that you’re struggling fruitlessly. This morning I found myself questioning the point of my ambitions and thinking that I would be better off quitting than continuing to struggle only to wake up to the same results every morning.
Sometimes you’re fighting a losing battle indeed, but most of the time when people quit they do so before they’ve given their best effort to win their particular battles. They find it easier to go with the “there’s no point anyway, I’ll never accomplish my goals no matter what I do” mentality over “I have to find a way no matter what it takes. I refuse to quit. I refuse to be defeated.”
Before you quit on your dreams because you wake up one morning and things aren’t what you hoped they would be, ask yourself if you’ve really tried everything and tried it all wholeheartedly. Also ask yourself if you’ve been reasonable in allowing enough time for the things that you have done to yield the desired results. If you planted a seed yesterday, for example, you won’t wake up today to find a tree fully grown and baring fruit. We all want what we want and we usually want it now, but sometimes it can take more time than we might like. This doesn’t mean we can’t or won’t fulfill our dreams. It just means that it will take a little bit longer and require us to work harder; but if we really want something having to work harder and longer to get it should not daunt us.
Set a time line by which you want to see certain things happen, and make sure the time you allow is reasonable. Don’t, for example, set a time line to make a million dollars for two weeks from the day you decide you want to become a millionaire. There are, arguably, no legitimate ways outside of games of chance, to make that kind of money in such a short period of time. Be reasonable, and be realistic; and if after you have allowed a reasonable amount of time to fulfill a reasonable goal you are still where you were when you started, then you can begin to rationally analyze your situation to determine if perhaps you might need to try a different course.
Here is an article I’ve just finished reading that I find very applicable to my own situation. Perhaps it might help you if you too are battling frustration and feeling tempted to give up on yourself and your dreams.

Are You Persevering Or Enduring?
by: Jane Straus
Why try to make a distinction between perseverance and endurance? In both perseverance and endurance, we may struggle at times, feel fear of failure or rejection, or worry that we are not worthy of what we long for. So the distinction between perseverance and endurance can easily get blurred.
But perseverance and endurance take us down different roads so they are worth distinguishing. Endurance will lead us to a dead end whereas perseverance, although it may take us down a long and meandering path, offers up surprises, serendipity, and synchronicity.
Endurance can be identified by its symptoms—anxiety, boredom, self-criticism, addiction, low energy, avoidance, depression, lethargy—to name just a few that I discuss in Enough Is Enough! Stop Enduring and Start Living Your Extraordinary Life.
When we habitually wake up in the morning dreading that today will be a repeat of yesterday and the day before and the day before that, we are enduring, not persevering. The bad news is that endurance sneaks up on us. We don’t know we’re in endurance until we’re pretty miserable. The good news is that, once we recognize the sources of our endurance, we can say “Enough is enough!” and begin leading a more fulfilling life.
We endure because we’re fearful, self-judging, or believing a limiting thought. Often, these sources of endurance overlap such that we are experiencing two or even three of them. We may be fearful because of a limiting belief. For example, if I believe that I am not good enough in some way, I may be quite fearful of putting myself in situations that will likely trigger this belief.
The problem with latching onto our fears, self-judgments, and limiting beliefs is that they constrict us. How can I have new experiences that debunk my limiting belief about being unworthy if I avoid situations that have the potential of making me realize I was wrong? Instead, in endurance, I will get to be right…and miserable.
Perseverance isn’t necessarily any less challenging than endurance, but it does lead someplace new and different. Instead of being right and miserable, we get to be surprised and excited about life.
So what is perseverance? It is our willingness to commit to our spirit’s longings no matter what! No matter what fears, self-judgments, and limiting beliefs pop up to distract us or try to protect us from humiliation. Perseverance is committing no matter what others say the odds against our achieving our goals are. No matter what we have told ourselves about being too old, too young, too uneducated, too busy, or too poor. Perseverance is choosing to pay attention to our spirit rather than to all the chatter that has stopped us from living our extraordinary life.
Perseverance is like buying a car. When we purchase a new vehicle, we suddenly see the same car in greater numbers on the road. This isn’t because more people bought the same car on the same day we did, is it? It’s because our attention is now focused differently from where it was before. Wherever we focus our attention dictates what we see and experience. If we focus on our fears, self-judgments, and limiting beliefs, it’s like putting blinders on. These are all we will see and experience. On the other hand, if we focus on listening and attending to our spirit’s callings, we will see and experience extraordinary new people, events, feelings, and thoughts.
As soon as we shift from endurance to perseverance, we allow surprise, serendipity, and synchronicity to help our spirit along. We are now saying “yes” to the Universe, which expands our peripheral vision and gives us a new view of potentials and possibilities. Perseverance requires three things: a willingness to listen to ourselves, a willingness to be wrong about our prior fears, self-judgments, and limiting beliefs, and the courage to be explorers.
The first two requirements must come from within. The third one—courage—we can allow others to support us in. Find people who listen to their own spirits, who have beaten odds, live joyfully, and find compassion for themselves and those around them. These are your mentors and your heroes and heroines.
Many of us wait to listen to our spirit until tragedy or illness strikes. My wake-up call came in the form of a brain tumor. But we don’t need to wait to allow ourselves to be inspired. Let today—your child’s smile, your urge to paint, the sun warming your skin, a desire to help someone in need—be enough.

The book The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America’s Wealthy (1996, ISBN 0-671-01520-6) is by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko.
This book is a compilation of research done by the two authors in the profiles of ‘millionaires’. In this case they used the term ‘millionaire’ to denote U.S. households with net-worths exceeding one million dollars (USD). The results that they gathered were quite surprising.
UAWs Versus PAWs
The authors make a distinction between Under Accumluators of Wealth (UAWs) and Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth (PAWs). Most of the millionaire households that they profiled did not have the extravagant lifestyles that most people would assume. This finding is backed up by surveys indicating how little these millionaire households have spent on such things as cars, watches, suits, and other luxury products/services. Most importantly, the book gives a list of reasons for why these people managed to accumulate so much wealth (the top one being that “They live below their means”). The authors make a distinction between the ‘Balance Sheet Affluent’ (those with actual wealth, or high net-worth) and the ‘Income Affluent’ (those with a high income, but little actual wealth, or low net-worth).
Main Points
Spend Less Than You Earn
If you are always spending up to or above what you earn, you will never increase your net worth no matter much you make. The author discusses being prugal: prudent and frugal.
Avoid Buying Status Objects or Leading a Status Lifestyle
Buying imported vehicles is poor value and you will constantly need to buy the newest model. Buying status objects such as branded consumer goods is a never-ending cycle of depreciating assets. Living in a status neighbourhood is not only poor value, but you will feel the need to keep buying status objects to keep up with your neighbours, who are mostly UAWs.
PAWs Are Willing to Take Financial Risk if it is Worth the Reward
PAWs are not misers who put every penny under their mattress. They invest their money for good returns, and will consider riskier investments if they’re worth the reward. Many put money not in the stock market, but invest in private businesses and venture capital. They do not gamble or speculate on long-odds stocks.
Economic Outpatient Care
The authors also make an interesting observation in that UAWs tend to have children who require an influx of money from their parents in order to afford the lifestyle that their children expect for themselves, and that they are less likely to have been taught about money, budgeting and investing by their parents.

A millionaire is a either an individual or any person who resides in a household whose net worth or wealth exceeds one million United States dollars, or Canadian Dollars, Euros, British pounds or units of a comparably valued currency. A centimillionaire has a net worth of more than 100 million units of currency. While statistics regarding financial assets and net worth are presented by household, the term is also often used to describe only the individual who has amassed the assets as millionaire. Thus the term statistically refers only to households, while in common language use it may only refer to an individual.
A certain level of prestige is associated with being a millionaire, which makes that amount of wealth a goal for many. However, due to inflation, the status of millionaire is no longer as exclusive as it once was. The increasing number of millionaires is partially due to inflation: a million dollars, for example, provides far less purchasing power today than it did in the 19th century. However it still ensures a comfortable lifestyle for those becoming millionaires.
Net worth vs. financial assets
Recently there has been some controversy over how to correctly determine a person’s status as a millionaire. One of the two most commonly used measurements is net worth, which counts the total value of all property owned by a household minus the household’s debts. According to this definition a household owning an $800k home, $50k furnishing, two cars worth $60k, a $60k IRA, $45k in mutual funds and a $325k vacation home with a $250k mortgage, $40k in car loans and $25k in credit card debt, would be worth $1,025,000 and every individual in this household would thus be a millionaire. However, according to the financial assets measurement, real estate equity, which accounts for the greatest portions of wealth among American households, is excluded. So are all other fixed assets such as the car and furniture.
While millionaires constitute only a small percentage of the population, they hold vast control over economic resources with the most powerful and prominent individuals usually ranking among them. Forbes and Fortune magazines maintain lists of people based on their net worth and are generally considered authorities on the subject. According to Forbes’ 19th annual list of the richest people published in 2006 there are 793 US-dollar billionaires in the world. The number of millionaires is much higher.
Multi-millionaire
Another commonly used term is multi-millionaire. As the term implies, multi-millionaire applies to those individuals residing in households with a net worth or wealth of two million or more. Only a small minority of millionaire households are indeed multi-millionaire households, yet many of the stereotypical millionaires shown in televisions programs such as “The OC” are actually multi-millionaires. The term also has a more prestigious connotation than millionaire.
Roughly 0.9% of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) can also correctly be identified as ultra-high net worth individuals (Ultra-HNWIs), those who reside in households with a net worth or wealth of thirty million or more. There are approximately seventy thousand ultra-HNWIs in the world with 54,000 or 77% residing in the United States and Europe.

The following 50 stress management tips are taken from "101 Stress Management Tips" a resource compiled by David Tomaselli, the creator of "Stress Management Techniques and Self Improvement – The Wholistic Development Exchange".
It is believed that some people thrive under stress, but if you’re like most people stress impacts negatively on your life by impeding your progress and thwarting your ambitions. For the small business entrepreneur and aspiring millionaire good stress management skills are essential if there is to be any hope of conquering the inevitable setbacks and surmounting the numerous obstacles that will conspire to block the path to success.

There is a reason fewer people go the route of entrepreneurship or spend their time actively chasing after million dollar dreams. Although a million dollars isn’t considered to be much money any more, earning a million dollars is still considered to be an ambitious undertaking, and most people are daunted by the thought of how difficult it would be to make a million dollars, so they don’t go out trying to make that kind of money. They might dream and wish, but they don’t make it their daily ambition because its more stress than most people can handle just trying to earn what little money they already make from their 9-5 jobs.
It is no small undertaking running your own business, trying to make money for yourself, striving for millionaire glory. And with the numbers in favor of failure, you can only help yourself by learning to control stress rather than allowing stress to control you and determine your fate. So here are the promised 50 stress management tips. For all of David Tomaselli’s 101 stress management tips, scroll to the bottom of the page for a link to his website.
50 Stress Management Tips
- Maintain a positive attitude in life as much as possible. It is best to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Do not look at a problem as a hindrance but rather as a challenge and opportunity to grow.
- Say No to those that promote stress in your life. This may mean not over committing yourself or not doing things you don’t want to do just because a friend asked you.
- Breath correctly using abdominal breathing techniques, not shallow breathing. Expand your abdomen as you breathe in through your nose, hold, and then breathe out through your mouth, and hold.
- Stop worrying! In most cases the things you worry about have a very low likelihood of occurring and usually don’t eventuate. At worst, accept your concern as a possibility and let it go.
- Meditate regularly. Meditation has a positive effect physically, emotionally and psychologically and can produce a state of relaxation that benefits the heart, the brain, the lungs and blood.
- Employ progressive relaxation, systematically tensing and relaxing various groups of muscles in an orderly sequence. You will not only feel more relaxed but you will learn to recognise the onset of muscle tension due to stress.
- Stretch regularly. Stretching loosens up stiff tense muscles and increases the flow of blood and nutrients to the cells of your body. It reduces mental and physical stress, tension, anxiety and promotes good sleep.
- If you believe in God, then pray to God. Don’t just ask for help, talk about what happened during your day. Knowing you are not alone and that you can talk to a being that is all powerful and merciful is a great form of stress relief.
- Delegating work allows you to manage your ever increasing workload concentrating on the most important tasks at hand. Delegation increases the responsibility and enjoyment of those under you as they take on new tasks.
- Regular physical exercise such as going to the gym, for a run or playing a competitive sport, can become an outlet that allows you focus on an enjoyable activity while literally forgetting about the stressful events that occurred during your day.
- Try Tai Chi. It is not just a series of physical movements which is beneficial to the body, but is also made up of meditative and deep breathing exercises which provides a calming effect and better sense of well being.
- Develop a balanced life style that focuses on all aspects of your life, including you work/studies, your family and relationships, your social life, your interests, your spiritual needs and most importantly you.
- Manage your time carefully. List all the main tasks you need to achieve at the start of each day. Eliminate any activities that are considered wasteful and non productive. Become more efficient in the regular tasks you attend to each day.
- Maintain a healthy nutritious diet. Eat more fresh fruit, whole grains, vegetables, lean meat and fish, and less fat, salt, sugar and alcohol. This will enhance your immune system and keep your energy levels high.
- Control your finances. Financial worries can add to your stress levels. In essence you must spend less and save more. Set a budget and record everything you spend. If you need help seek expert financial advice.
- Do not take work home, unless absolutely necessary. Try to maintain a clear boundary between work and home. This gives you the opportunity to recover from the stresses of work encountered during the day, and feel more rejuvenated the following day.
- The state of your energy body and chakras are directly related to you physical, emotional and mental state. Maintaining a healthy energy body will not only help deal with stress and many other challenges that life may bring.
- Increase your energy levels with Yoga. Yoga is specifically designed not only to help you become strong physically but also energize your body by focusing on the ‘prana’ entering your energy centers while holding specific physical positions.
- Smile especially when you are feeling angry or stressed. Research has shown that smiling can actually help you feel happier, lower your heart rate and produce a calmer breathing pattern.
- Try Pilates, a non-aerobic form of exercise which improves flexibility, strength and balance requiring concentration and focus. It offers the same benefits if not more than just stretching and physical exercise alone.
- Learn Chi Kung, a health exercise which regulates the flow of Chi through the acupuncture meridians. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, Chi Kung is excellent for quieting your mind and regulating your breathing.
- Learn a martial art. Physically this will improve your co-ordination, flexibility, strength and general endurance. It will not only teach you concentration and focus, but more importantly you will learn how to defend yourself.
- Get a massage. A massage can relieve muscle tension and stiffness, and improve the range of motion of your joints. Studies show a massage can reduce the heart rate, lower blood pressure and increases blood circulation, promoting relaxation.
- Accept responsibility for where you are in your life. By adopting this attitude you no longer become a victim who has handed power over to some one else but rather an empowered individual who can solve all problems.
- Visualize calm, especially during times of stress or intense emotions. Combined with deep breathing, this can help produce a state of calmness emotionally and psychologically.
- Write down exactly what is bothering you. In a lot of cases, the solution to a problem that may be causing you stress can be arrived at very easily by identifying and writing the problem on paper.
- Know your limits so you can prevent life from becoming too stressful. Don’t try to fit too much in, over commit yourself or attempt to over achieve to the point of breaking down.
- Get sufficient rest. A major key to performing at your best and dealing with stress is being well rested both mentally and physically. Make sure you go to bed early at minimum one night per week.
- Being low in energy can make you tired and contribute to stress. To get more energy introduce high energy foods into your diet such as bananas, pineapple, strawberries, spinach and cabbage, red meats and even high-energy smoothies.
- Increase your iron intake. If you are low in iron, you can become mildly depressed which can definitely inhibit your ability to deal with stress. Try eating foods high in iron including lentils, spinach, tofu and lean beef, as well as iron supplements.
- Drink ample water. On average you should be drinking eight glasses of water per day, otherwise you run the risk of becoming dehydrated which can result in feeling lethargic and low in energy, and hence more susceptible to stress.
- Surround yourself with positive and supportive people and influences. Minimize contact with people who are generally negative or stressed. Do not listen to people who are pessimistic or overly critical of you.
- Adopt the following as your personal philosophy: "Have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage and resolve to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
- Laugh away your Stress. Laughter is a good tool for managing the challenges in your life that would otherwise make you feel overwhelmed and stressed. It reduces muscular tension caused by stress and contributes to the production of endorphins, natural pain killers for your body.
- Go for a walk. This is not only a good stress management remedy but also a great form of exercise that anyone can do. This is particularly beneficial during stressful times at work or after having had a heated debate. Make walking a regular activity in your day, either in the morning, during lunch, or in the evening.
- Repeat a mantra, a meaningful word or phrase, through out the day and or night. Studies have shown that mantras can help you better cope with stress. Your mantra can be spiritual in nature, such as “Amen” or “Om”, or not totally unrelated to any tradition such as “Calm”.
- A rewarding personal life can help you better deal with stress especially at work. This may mean spending ample quality time with your loved ones or regularly catching up with friends.
- Drink herbal tea. Different herbs are known for target and support specific parts of the body including the nervous, circulatory and cardiovascular systems. It is the ideal drink for dealing with stress and other ailments including colds, flu and fatigue.
- Listen to music (that you like). Music has an incredible ability to change your mood and relieve stress. It can not only be used to sooth, but also to “rev” your energy levels when needed.
- Learn from the lesson. Sometime stress can be caused because of a mistake you have made or some other adverse circumstance that has occurred. Rather than brooding over it, look at the lessons that can be learnt from the experience.
- Take regular time off or vacations. It is important to regularly take time away from the stresses in your life. Regular vacations or breaks give you that opportunity to recharge your batteries, reconnect with yourself and prevent burn out.
- Try to keep your chin up. Especially when you feel things are at their worst, try to keep your chin up and chest out. During times of crisis, things always appear extremely hopeless. This time will pass. Things will be better tomorrow.
- Take up gardening. Gardening not only allows you to connect to Mother Nature, but also serves as a great form of physical activity. Research has also shown that being in a garden or even just viewing can relieve stress.
- Take a walk along the beach. Natural surroundings are known to trigger relaxation responses deep in the brain. The beach in particular with its fresh air and rhythmic rolling in of waves can have a calming effect on you.
- Talk to friends and family. Sometimes is helps to talk to friends and family when you are feeling stressed. While they are not professional counsellors, talking to them give you a chance to express your feelings and vent.
- Seek professional help. If stress is just too overwhelming you may want to seek outside help from a counsellor, health professional or life coach. A professional therapist can help you rationalise and provide strategies on coping with stress.
- Take a course. A course in stress management will teach you how to recognise the symptoms of stress and how to effectively deal with it. If poor time management is your problem a course in this area is also extremely useful.
- Develop a hobby. Getting immersed in a hobby or interesting activity is a great form of stress relief. It allows you to forget the outside world for a while especially those things that are contributing towards your stress.
- Read a book. Reading can be a great escape from stress because it forces you to focus on something other than your own troubles. Also research has shown that people who read have a better ability to understand how other people think and feel, and become better equipped in dealing with problems.
- See a feel good movie. Like reading, a good movie also gives you the opportunity to focus on something other than your own worries. It is important to wisely pick a movie that is positive and makes you feel good, not one that is depressing.
