Get inspired. Read about How Sam Walton founded the multi-billion dollar company that would put the names of his descendants on lists of the richest people in the world. Ambition, a desire to succeed, a specific goal, and knowledge about “how” to accomplish the specific goal seem to be the primary factors separating the Sam Walton’s of the world from those of us who just can’t seem to get anywhere.

You can’t simply want to be rich and want to make money. There has to be something else behind that desire. You need specific goals. You need ambition to go after those goals and you need knowledge of how to accomplish those goals.
Right now ask yourself, am I searching for information on how to do something specific that could potentially make me money, or am I searching for information on how to make money? And if you’re searching for information on how to make money you’re more likely to end up a sucker than to end up a millionaire. The fact is, most self-made millionaires and billionaires didn’t stumble upon a website that sold them the secret to wealth for a few bucks. They turned start-up businesses into million-dollar and billion-dollar corporations, and to do that they necessarily needed high ambition and knowledge of how to run the type of business they run. The millions and billions are just the fruit their ambition and hard work yielded.
Are you truly ambitious? Read about the history of Walmart and try to imagine yourself doing the same thing as Sam Walton. You can probably see yourself at the head of a billion-dollar corporation pretty easily; but can you see yourself climbing to the top, doing all the hard work that is necessary, making the key decisions, taking the risks. Are you made of similar stock as the Sam Waltons of the world, or are you just someone who wants money but doesn’t necessarily understand that the Sam Waltons of the world didn’t come by their money effortlessly, and that no one earns millions and billions of dollars who doesn’t in some way work harder than a thousand men combined, except perhaps recording artists and actors, but even they must work hard and be good at what they do in order to make their money.
The history of Wal-Mart can be traced back to the 1940s when Sam Walton began his career in retailing. After being interviewed by recruiters from both Sears Roebuck and JC Penney just before graduating from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Sam accepted a job offer from JC Penney. He began working at a JC Penney store in Des Moines, Iowa on June 3, 1940, making a salary of $75 a month. During his employment there, Sam was able to meet James Cash Penney, the department store’s founder, during a visit to the store. He remained at JC Penney for eighteen months.
In September 1945, Walton acquired, from George Scharlott, the franchise and lease on a Ben Franklin in Newport, Arkansas. The variety store was part of a chain operated by the Butler Brothers, a regional retailer. After three years, Walton increased annual sales from $80,000 to $225,000 by 1948.
